Current Students
Teacher Education programs prepare students for teaching in early childhood (preschool) middle childhood (elementary education), early adolescence (middle school/junior high) and adolescence/young adulthood (high school). Program standards, curricula, and licensure are in accord with regulations promulgated by the State of Indiana and authorized by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Descriptions of performance-based programs vary by content areas.
Official performance-based program guidelines are available on this website. Students seeking additional clarification and guidance should consult with an academic/faculty advisor. A person who already holds a bachelor’s degree may wish to complete a teacher education program as a "post-bacc for teacher licensing only" student.
The admission process and requirements for licensure are separate from the admission process and requirements for the degree. Admission to the Teacher Education Program (TEP) is a distinct and unique admission process, separate from admission to Purdue University. Each teacher education program area includes the Plan of Study for the degree. The Teacher Education Program directory pages for licensure are listed below the individual program areas. Although the licensure coursework requirements are included within the Plan of Study, there are additional licensure requirements for admission and retention in the Teacher Education Program (TEP). GPA, testing, and other requirements must be satisfied prior to admission at each Gate throughout TEP. For more information about the TEP requirements, click here.
