Office of Professional Preparation & Licensure
The Office of Professional Preparation & Licensure (OPPL) goals are to provide friendly, knowledgeable and expedient service to all individuals who request assistance and information about teacher education at Purdue University. OPPL supports the Purdue University Teacher Education Council and accreditation activities by assisting prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, alumni, P-12 educators, and others with teacher preparation, licensure and continuing education needs.
OPPL processes applications for all teacher education programs, provides information about programs available at Purdue, and monitors students' progress for admission and retention within programs. As a student, please be aware that admission to the Purdue University Teacher Education Programs is a separate and distinct step beyond admission to the University and that the standards for admission to, and retention in, teacher preparation programs are higher than those required to remain in good standing within the University.
This office also provides explanation and interpretation of teacher licensing requirements. Students who have completed teacher education programs are evaluated and recommended for licenses. OPPL also maintains licensing records.
OPPL develops and disseminates communication regarding licensure standards and requirements with all colleges, schools, and departments of the University involved in teacher education, assists in the administration of Purdue University Teacher Education Council activities, provides representation at local, state, and national meetings that involve teacher education and licensing issues, serves as a communication link for accreditation activities, and develops and maintains professional relationships with the State of Indiana and other university teacher education and licensing offices.
