Praxis I and Praxis II
The State of Indiana utilizes tests developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS). Praxis I: Pre-Professional Skills Tests are designed to be taken early in an individual's college career and measure basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. Praxis II: Subject Assessments, taken near completion of the Teacher Education Program, measure the content knowledge of the subjects an individual will teach.
School Leaders Licensure Assessment As of February 1, 2003, any individual who has never held an administrative license in Indiana or any other state and is applying for an initial Indiana administrative license must take the School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA). This initial administrative license is for Superintendent, Director of Exceptional Needs, Director of Career/Technical, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and Building Level Administrator.
The SLLA is not required if the individual already holds any valid Indiana administrative license and is adding another administrative area. An individual who applies for an original Indiana administrative license with a valid out-of-state administrative license and can verify three years of experience in an accredited K-12 school in the appropriate position under that license also is not required to take the SLLA. The SLLA is not required for the renewal of administrative licenses.
The SLLA qualifying score is 158. After January 1, 2005, successful completion of the SLLA will require a qualifying score of 165.
